The Christopher Columbus Drive 80 hotel is operated as a franchise by Marriott, owned and managed by Kan Kan, a New Jersey City-based entrepreneur who owns and operates a number of restaurants and bars in the city, as well as the owner and operator of a full-service restaurant on the site of the former grocery store. Kan: "We will be Marriott franchises, and we own and operate them as hotels, restaurants, bars, hotels and restaurants in Newark.
The Residence Inn in Jersey City is being developed by Ironstate Development Company and Panepinto Properties on the site of a former grocery store on the corner of Christopher Columbus Drive and West Columbus Avenue in Newark.
The developers have hired a regional artist to be a resident of Jersey City for $240,000 for his work on the exterior and interior of the Residence Inn. The developers are hiring a local artist who has studied at NJ State University and New Jersey State College of Art and Design for a $120,500 grant from the state's Department of Economic Development.
