Elysian Charter School of Hoboken Reviews

I agree, no academic accountability for the upper grades!

I do agree with the individualized attention and small class sizes being a plus for the school, as well as the teachers being very good. The problem I found after keeping both my children in the school for several years, is that they really arent being prepared for any academic accountability. They now go to a more traditional school, and wow, what a difference in the amount of actual learning that goes on! They are actually expected to learn and recall whatever it is they are being taught, there is a level of expectation that I never found at Elysian. Sure the kids love it there, who wouldn't? You do not have to perform up to any level, too much coddling and hand holding goes on, not enough learning. It does have its good points, but enough is enough, once they get into the upper grades, move them out.

I am very pleased with the school. My two kids have been there since kindergarten and are both thriving in the Elysian environment. The children and comfortable and confident to make mistakes and take chances. This is the best way to develop the kids into people who love to learn and who will be lifelong learners. In addition, the school gives the kids the skills they need to compete in the truly global marketplace of the 21st century. Staff and leadership are excellent and staff development is emphasized above all else, aside from the individualized attention the students get.

great school, we are very happy with the teachers and community

Very happy with my children's progress in the lower grades. Teachers are very committed to the students. Class size is very small, giving more students individualized attention. There is a great level of parent involvement -- kids are developing into wonderful self assured young adults. Could not be happier.

My child attends Kindergaren at Elysian and we are very happy with the quality of her teacher, the individual attention each child receives. Elysian's staff stimulates parents participation and we feel that our opinion is always welcome. The after schools program is also very good. EXtra curricular activities are always developed and the staff is vey attentive.

Its a great school. My family loves it, the teachers are great and the kids are really happy.

My daugther has been at Elysian for the past two years and she has be growing as an individual. She loves school and misses it when she can not attend. The have extracurricular ativities which my daughter loves such as the rocket club. The school is about community and parents are well involved. I believe the choice we made of enrolling our daugther at Elysian was a good one.

I feel that the school is one of the most compassionate and supporting places I have had the opportunity to have my children experience. The staff and administration has been both supportive and nurturing in all aspects of my children's education. This is truly a great school!!!!

I am a parent of two children at ECS and couldn't be happier. They both love school and are thriving in an environment that is not only teaching them the required curriculum, but developing the skills they need to succeed in the world: confidence, curiosity and independent learning, teamwork, presentation skills and self-control. Our teachers have been wonderful: caring, committed, energetic and experienced. The school spends a great deal of time on staff development and it shows in the quality of the education my children receive.

I truly believe that at Elysian our children will never learn leadership, manners or even respect for others regardless of age or sex. This school has truly fell through the cracks. Someone should look into the qualifications of their 'leader/principal'. She is often out during a crisis and never makes herself available to parents. I know of several parents who were wise enough to pull their children out in time who can't understand why so many of us are still there. The children are clearly unhappy and they only have a handful of teachers they feel comfortable enough with to turn to for help. Good luck to all who attend. Angry in Jersey City

I agree that the leadership is in much need of help. Parents, stay involved. Listen to your children they have a voice please allow them to be heard. Don't turn over total control to people your children don't trust or respect. Question why they feel the way they do about their principal. Get to the bottom of things don't let them get swept under the rug. Only this way can Elysian Charter School get new leadership. Our children deserve it! Sorry I stayed.

As a parent I am very disappointed with the leadership at Elysian. I'm aware that children learn from example and if they're learning anything from their principal, unfortunatley, it is nothing positive. Her manners have much to be desired.
